Cyril Ernest Wright (1907-1980) was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, before attending Edinburgh University (M.A., 1929) and Clare College, Cambridge (B.A., 1931; Ph.D., 1936). He joined the Department of Manuscripts at the British Museum in 1933, where he became Deputy Keeper in 1955, and Senior Deputy Keeper in 1961, retiring in 1972.
